This past week we took time to recount the death and burial of Sarah in Genesis 23. Though at first glance this chapter seems to focus on historical anecdotes about the aquisition of land to bury Sarah, upon further examination it reveals the faith of Abraham as he invests in the future. When Sarah dies, Abraham's mourning is followed is by a faith-filled act of purchasing land to bury her in the land in Canaan. The lesson for us that confidence in the future fulfillment of God's promises compels us to walk by faith in the present. This eternal perspective infuses the present with a hope that enables us to trust, obey, and worship no matter what our circumstances.

PREPARING TO HEAR
This week's sermon will be from Genesis 24. Take a few minutes to read the passage and consider the following questions:
- How are the themes of covenant, provision, and faith continued in this story?
- What do the remarkable circumstances of Isaac and Rebekah's marriage show us about God?
- What is the ultimate aim of God's providential guidance not only in this story, but in all of history? How should that shape our prayers and expectations?
Let's pray together for the Holy Spirit to be active as we open our hearts to His word on Sunday.
