IN REFLECTION

Sunday we worked through Genesis 12:1-9. Though the world lives under the curse, God called a man named Abram and promises to bless him and bring blessing to the world through him. Abram's response of obedience is a beautiful portrait of faith in the promise. The big idea is that salvation comes through faith in the promise of God. This ancient promise of blessing comes to fulfillment through Jesus, the descendant of Abraham, who brings the blessing of salvation to the world. Like Abram, we receive this blessing through faith. Like Abram, we must respond in obedience to the call of Christ, taking up our crosses and following our Savior.

IN PREPARATION

PREPARING TO HEAR

This week's sermon will be from Genesis 12:10-20. Take time to read the test and consider these questions:

  • What is at stake as Abraham and Sarah go to Egypt? How does this connect to the first half of the chapter?
  • What does this text reveal about the human heart? About the character of God?
  • How does this point to the salvation we find in Jesus?
  • How ought our lives be shaped by the truths of this text?

PREPARING TO SING

Below are the songs we will singing together on Sunday. Use this as a resource to learn unfamiliar songs, to meditate on Christ-centered truth throughout the week, and teach your children songs that will fill their minds and shape their hearts.
