IN REFLECTION

On Sunday we considered the action packed narrative of Genesis 14 and observed the faith of Abram and, more importantly, the faithfulness of God. Let's remember this week to rest in the victory that God gives us in Christ, and let's move forward with courage knowing that He is with us. Fear will derail our mission, apathy will undermine it, but faith will energize us as we seek to carry out the mission God has given us.

IN PREPARATION

PREPARING TO HEAR

This week we will be taking a short detour from Genesis to investigate the unique character who appeared in ch14 - Melchizedek. Who is this mysterious priest-king? And why is he so prominent in the NT book of Hebrews? Take some time this week to re-read Genesis 14, then read Psalm 110, and finally Hebrews 5-7. Consider the following questions:

  • In what ways was Melchizedek different than the Levitical priests?
  • In what ways does Christ minister as a priest?
  • How does Christ's priestly ministry relate to our salvation?
  • How does Christ's priestly ministry encourage and comfort us when we struggle?
  • How can we rest in His work and worship Him for this grace?

Please pray with me that we would see Christ more clearly, worship him more fully, and trust in him more confidently. Pray for unbelievers in our midst to hear the good news of salvation in Jesus and believe.

PREPARING TO SING

Below are the songs we will singing together on Sunday. Use this as a resource to learn unfamiliar songs, to meditate on Christ-centered truth throughout the week, and teach your children songs that will fill their minds and shape their hearts.
