Ever since the Garden of Eden, husbands and wives have had strife in their marriages. Sin tempts us to rebel against God's design for marriage. Our current cultural climate attests to this, as it rejects God's plan for husbands and wives in marriage. If we trust God's plan, however, we see that wives evidence faith in God by submitting to their husbands as the church submits to Christ.

Spend some time this week reflecting on submission within marriage. Wives, take a moment to apply these truths to your own lives. For others, think of how you can support the biblical truth we talked about Sunday in your own lives.

Listen to "Living By the Book: God's Will for Wives"

The companion to looking at biblical truth for wives is looking at biblical truth for husbands. Husbands struggle when their wives are not following God's plan for them, and the same is true for wives with husbands who don't follow God's plan for their own lives. To prepare for the sermon Sunday, spend some time reading Ephesians 5:25-33 and think about these questions:

  • What is God's design for husbands?
  • What is biblical headship?
  • How are husbands compared to Christ in Ephesians 5:25?
  • How does the world's perspective on husbands differ from the Bible's perspective?
  • What are some obstacles that get in the way of following God's design for husbands?

Please take a moment in preparation for this Sunday to pray for those God will bring to the service, both believers and unbelievers, and that he will work in their hearts to understand the Scripture and apply it to their hearts. Pray for JD as he prepares and proclaims God's Word, and for the Holy Spirit to work through his words and in the hearts of all who hear. Pray that God would defeat our enemy's attempts to hinder the proclamation of the gospel at Redemption Hill.

Below are the songs we will be singing together on Sunday. Use this as a resource to learn unfamiliar songs, to meditate on Christ-centered truth throughout the week, and teach your children songs that will fill their minds and shape their hearts.
