The Sovereign Grace of God

undefined

Speaker: Michael Dietzel | Date: August 11, 2019 | Text: Hosea 11

Sermon Summary

Many people characterize God's character in the Old Testament as that of an angry, hateful abuser. He is called a God of wrath who has no love. But this is not the God of the Old Testament. The God of the Old Testament, who is the same God as today, is loving, merciful, and gracious. He hates sin and punishes it righteously, but his sovereign grace abounds beyond our comprehension. In Jesus Christ, God's justice and mercy meet, and he pours out salvation to all who believe in him.

God the Judge

undefined

Speaker: Michael Dietzel | Date: July 7, 2019 | Text: Hosea 9-10

Sermon Summary

All sin results in God's judgment. Because God is perfectly righteous, he must judge sin. And because God is totally sovereign, he has the right to judge sin. But God's righteousness and sovereignty are also showcased at the cross, where God poured out his judgment for sin upon Jesus Christ, providing a way for salvation for all who believe in him.

The Nature of Sin

undefined

Speaker: Michael Dietzel | Date: June 30, 2019 | Text: Hosea 7-8

Sermon Summary

Sin is an inconvenient truth. We don't like to think about it and all its gross qualities, but if we do not, we risk being lulled to sleep to the deadly consequences it brings. All sin leads to God's judgment. The good news is that Jesus offers to bear the burden and receive the judgment for anyone who turns from their sin and believes in him.

God's Grace of Repentance

undefined

Speaker: Michael Dietzel | Date: June 16, 2019 | Text: Hosea 5-6

Sermon Summary

Repentance is a change of mind that leads to a change of heart resulting in a change of action. Repenting does not mean doing acts of penance, but rather acknowledging our sin and our need for a savior. Repentance is a necessary response to God's work of salvation where we turn from our sins and turn to God. But no one can repent without being drawn to repentance by God. Praise God for his grace of repentance!

God's Unexpected Love

undefined

Speaker: Michael Dietzel | Date: April 14, 2019 | Text: Hosea 3

Sermon Summary

Looking at our sin against God from a human perspective, we have no hope. God has every right to cast us away and reject us for our unfaithfulness to him. But God's love is not like our love. God loves us faithfully and patiently. He loved us enough to die for us. Have you experienced the love of God?

Diagnosing Idolatry

undefined

Speaker: Michael Dietzel | Date: March 3, 2019 | Text: Hosea 2:2-23

Sermon Summary

Idolatry is spiritual adultery. When our desires become greater than our desire for God, we seek to fulfill them by any means necessary. We ignore the fact that idolatry is infidelity, misplaced trust, and unfulfilling. We merely see what we want and seek it out. What is the solution? God. God draws us back to himself. God restores intimacy with us and removes our idolatrous desires from our hearts. He only asks us to turn from your idols and believe in Jesus Christ. Will you trust in him?.

Faithless People, Faithful God

undefined

Speaker: Michael Dietzel | Date: January 27, 2019 | Text: Hosea 1:1-2:1

Sermon Summary

The book of Hosea was given by God to identify and rebuke idolatry. In the first chapter he indicts those who give worship to idols and promises that they will be judged. Idolatry is spiritual adultery, as the real life example of Gomer illustrates. We, like Gomer, are unfaithful to our covenant partner. But God gives hope, through Jesus Christ, that we will be able to turn from our idolatry and receive mercy.
