Sovereign Grace in the Sea

Speaker: JD Summers | Date: November 3, 2019 | Text: Jonah 1:17-2:10

Sermon Summary

In order to repent, we must come to the end of ourselves. Repenting means relinquishing our grip on our sin and submitting our will to God. God does not require perfection, but he does require us to fight against our sin, to take up our cross daily and follow him. He requires us to respond to the loving work of grace in our hearts to convict us of sin and draw us back to him.

The Delusion of Disobedience

undefined

Speaker: JD Summers | Date: October 27, 2019 | Text: Jonah 1:1-16

Sermon Summary

Disobedience is delusional. Our sin is against the creator of the universe, the sovereign ruler of everything in existence. Sin tries to trick us into thinking that we can get away with it, and that sin is no big deal, but we must not be deceived. Praise be to God for his patience, that he would bear with our sinfulness and forgive us when we repent and turn back to him.

Speaker: JD Summers | Date: October 20, 2019 | Text: Jonah

Sermon Summary

Why do we have the book of Jonah in our Bibles? To see God's nature. God is powerful and sovereign over human hearts and forces of nature. God is tender and compassionate to those who rebel against him. And his power and mercy point us to the reality that salvation belongs to the Lord. God is able to save and desires to save.
